WaterTALQ — Privacy Policy

The short version
- WaterTALQ has no user accounts and no login.
- We use no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. We do not use your advertising identifier (IDFA) and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- The settings and data you create stay on your device. We do not collect them.
- We never sell your data.
- The app retrieves publicly available water data from government and public sources. Your requests go directly to those services.
This Privacy Policy explains how the WaterTALQ mobile application (the “App”), published by SourceWater Consulting, LLC (“SourceWater,” “we,” “us”), handles information. WaterTALQ is an informational tool for viewing Colorado water-rights administration, stream-gaging, and reservoir data in the Arkansas River Basin (Water Division 2). By using the App you agree to this policy.
1. Information the App stores on your device
WaterTALQ is a “local-first” app. The following are stored only in the App’s storage on your device and are not transmitted to us:
- An optional Colorado Division of Water Resources (DWR) API key, if you choose to enter one;
- Cached water-rights, structure, stream-gaging, and reservoir data retrieved from public services, so the App loads faster;
- Any custom reservoirs or stations you add;
- Your threshold-alert settings;
- Structures you mark as “Exceptions to the Admin Number”;
- Your map, filter, and display preferences.
This information remains on your device and is removed if you delete the App.
2. Location
If you grant permission, the App uses your device location while you are using it to show your position on the map and to help identify nearby water-rights structures. Location is processed on your device by Apple Maps to render the map. We do not collect, store, or transmit your location to our servers. You can deny or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services; the App remains usable without it.
3. Public data services the App connects to
WaterTALQ displays publicly available hydrologic and water-administration data. When you use the App, it sends requests directly from your device to public government and water-agency services, which may include:
- Colorado Division of Water Resources / Colorado’s Decision Support Systems (CDSS) REST API;
- U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) water services;
- U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR);
- USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS / SNOTEL);
- Colorado Division 2 Water Operations and local water-conservancy district resources;
- CoCoRaHS and other public hydrologic and weather resources.
These services are operated by third parties. Any information your device exchanges with them (such as your IP address and the data you request) is governed by their privacy policies, not ours. The App may also offer links that open these or related resources in your browser or another app.
4. Your DWR API key
A personal DWR API key is optional and is yours. If you enter one, it is stored locally on your device and sent only to the Colorado DWR service to authenticate your data requests. We never receive, store, or have access to your API key.
5. Optional information you choose to send us
The App includes features that let you optionally email us — for example, to submit “Exceptions to the Admin Number” or to send feedback. If you use them, your email app opens with a message pre-addressed to info@sourcewater.us. Sending is entirely your choice. If you send a message, we receive your email address and whatever you include, and we use it only to review and improve the App’s water-rights modeling and to respond to you. We do not collect this information automatically, and we do not use it for advertising or tracking.
6. Analytics and advertising
The App contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking software. We do not build user profiles, and we do not use your data for advertising.
7. Notifications
Threshold alerts (for example, when a stream or reservoir reading crosses a level you set) are evaluated and delivered locally on your device. No alert data is sent to us.
8. Children’s privacy
WaterTALQ is intended for a general and professional audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Data security and your control
Because the information you create stays on your device, you control it. We recommend protecting your device with a passcode and keeping iOS up to date. Deleting the App removes its locally stored data.
10. Your choices
- Leave the DWR API key field blank, or clear it at any time in Settings;
- Deny or revoke location access in iOS Settings;
- Choose not to email us;
- Delete the App to remove all locally stored data.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective” date above and post the updated policy at this URL. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
